On Sunday, August 24, thousands gathered together for the Akron Pride Equality March and Festival, a celebration of community, history, and identity. Performers on the main stage included crowd-favorite Deborah Cox, country star Steve Grand, and a full roster of local talent. The Festival also included a display of 24 panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, honoring those who lost their life to the devastation of the disease.
“We have to celebrate Pride not just for fun, but also to be socially aware and bring this message to the event,” says Akron Festival Vice Chair Cindy Christman.
Photographer Shane Wynn was on the scene to capture images of a community bound together by pure, unadulterated pride.
