Kehinde Wiley is best known for painting the official portrait of President Obama for the National Portrait Gallery. His work, “Portrait of Andries Stilte II” (2006), is part of the Columbus Museum of Art’s collection.

The museum, Prizm and Equitas Health will host a launch party on Friday for Loud & Proud, a new group for LGBTQ patrons.

Prizm and Equitas Health will host a free launch party tonight at the Columbus Museum of Art for Loud & Proud, a new museum membership group for LGBTQ patrons.

Loud & Proud membership, with yearly levels starting at $250 for one person or $350 for two, will include free admission to the museum and its special exhibitions, free parking, and discounts in the museum store and café. The museum also will host two annual cocktail parties for Loud & Proud members and three special tours led by local drag artists, docents and community leaders.

 

Daniel Marcus, the Columbus Museum of Art’s Roy Lichtenstein fellow, put together this look at 10 of the LGBTQ artists whose work is part of the museum’s collection:

Daniel Marcus’ research addresses the history of art from the late nineteenth century to the present, with a particular emphasis on modernism and its politics. He has a doctorate degree in the history of art from the University of California Berkeley.
