The Columbus Museum of Art is set to announce a new membership group today for LGBTQ patrons that will offer special tours highlighting queer artists, semi-annual cocktail parties, museum store discounts and other perks.

Loud & Proud, part of a growing trend among arts organizations to bring their LGBTQ fans together, will launch on Friday, Sept. 28 with a free party presented by Equitas Health and Prizm.

“CMA’s collection encompasses artists from diverse backgrounds telling inclusive stories about the human experience,” museum leaders say in their announcement scheduled for later this morning. “With our Loud & Proud members, CMA will highlight LGBTQ artists as well as art with subject matter relevant to the LGBTQ community. CMA is proud of our LGBTQ artists. We’re proud of our collection. We’re proud to create a great experience with great art for the LGBTQ community.”

Loud & Proud membership, with yearly levels starting at $250 for one person or $350 for two, will include free admission to the museum and its special exhibitions, free parking, and discounts in the museum store and café.

The museum also will host two annual cocktail parties for Loud & Proud members and three special tours led by local drag artists, docents and community leaders.

Loud & Proud will start off in style at the Sept. 28 party presented by Equitas Health and Prizm, which are among the founding sponsors of the museum group.

The event will take place at the Columbus Museum of Art from 6 p.m.-8p.m. and feature an appearance by Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus and live creations by Columbus-based artists.

“Sold,” a Columbus artist who’s a perfume salesman by day, will design one of the evening’s live creations. “Sold” pulls inspiration for his process by wearing perfume and submerging himself in music, a synesthetic experience that allows him to tap into his emotions to inform his work.
