Licking County commissioners won’t show support for the LGBTQ community by displaying rainbow lights at the courthouse for Newark Pride, but we have friends in higher places.

Thanks to Jeremy Blake for capturing this photo yesterday of a rainbow over Downtown Newark and the very courthouse that commissioners have decided to light in different colors for Patriots Day, the spring equinox and other favored occasions but not for “causes” like showing support for vulnerable LGBTQ kids.

Blake, an openly gay Newark City Council member and candidate this fall for the Ohio House, tweeted the photo along with the following: “Yesterday, we received an inspirational message of love for all people. #Blessing #Rainbow #Courthouse”

The inaugural Newark Pride is on Saturday, June 9 in the city’s Canal Market District.
