You can sign up to play in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati even if you don’t have a team.

Registration is under way now for LGBTQ softball leagues in Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Play begins in April and May.

You don’t have to organize a full team to play; leagues have spots for individual players as well.

In Cincinnati, the River City Softball League begins play on Thursday, April 17. Practice days are planned for Thursday, April 3 and 10. There are two sessions planned, and the season runs through Thursday, Aug. 2.

If you have a full team, it’s $850 to sign up. Your team will be scheduled to play a doubleheader every week. There are competitive, intermediate and recreational divisions, so all skill levels are welcome.

If you’re signing up just for yourself, fill out the online form at the River City Softball website. If you are getting a team together, email Doug Wainscott.

In Cleveland, the North Coast Softball League starts play Sunday, May 20. A kickoff party is planned for Friday, May 11 at a location yet to be determined. Games take place on Sundays at Gordon Park over a 10-week season.

Sixteen teams competed in four divisions in 2017.

If you;’d like to join one of the 2018 teams, email with your name, phone number, a short description of your softball experience and skill, and preferred positions if known. Teams are allowed to add players through the fifth week of play (usually mid-June).

In Columbus, the Columbus Lesbian & Gay Softball Association is registering teams on its website. Individual players can register here. If you’re new to the league, you’re asked to take part in a Skills Clinic—seven are scheduled from Saturday, March 31 to Saturday, April 14—so you can be placed onto a team in a division that matches your skill level.

Play in Columbus begins Sunday, May 6.
