Equality Ohio honors Christine Link, who recently retired after serving as executive director of the ACLU of Ohio for 27 years.
“Equality Ohio has counted the ACLU and Christine as a valued partner many times,” the organization says. “Sometimes a local school refuses to accommodate a GSA, and together, we have guided the school in understanding how that violates the civil liberties of students. We partnered with the ACLU on the Why Marriage Matters Ohio campaign, which moved the needle from 47 percent to 53 percent of Ohioans in favor of same-sex marriage and prepared counties across the state to be ready on day one of the Obergefell decision.”
Under Link’s leadership, the Ohio ACLU also has fought for the rights of transgender Ohioans, for the rights of people living with HIV and for the rights LGBTQ members of the military.
